Barry Usher, a Montana legislator, has recently used his social media platform to discuss his involvement in state mining issues, share news of an endorsement, and comment on property tax policy.
On April 13, 2026, Usher posted about a fundraising event organized by the Mining Association. He stated: “I am honored & thankful the Mining Association is hosting this fundraiser. I have worked hard for Montana mining most recently getting tariffs on Russian Palladium for Stillwater mine and working with Sen Daines & Rep Downing on keeping signal Peak Mine open. See you April 15th”.
The following day, April 14, 2026, Usher announced an endorsement from a former state senator. He wrote: “ENDORSEMENT: I am honored and humbled to be endorsed by Former Senator Dan Bartel for SD19. Senator Bartel and I are aligned in our principles and he has been a good mentor for me in the House and Senate.”
On April 15, 2026, Usher addressed changes in property tax policy affecting Montana residents. In his post he said: “Remember: 2025 Property Tax Shift was passed o some AG & business’, giving homeowners a Property Tax Reduction. Again, this is a SHIFT and as President Ronald Reagan said, ‘business does not pay taxes, they pass thru to the consumer'”.
Montana’s mining industry has played a significant role in the state’s economy over decades. Recent legislative actions have focused on supporting local mines through measures such as tariffs on foreign metals and efforts to keep existing mines operational. The state’s property tax policies have also undergone revisions aimed at providing relief to homeowners while shifting some of the burden onto agricultural and business sectors.
