ShivarWeb has put Bozeman, Montana at the top of the list for new business startups, reports Cision PR Newswire.
ShivarWeb used census data to compile the report.
The Montana micropolitan area is ranked highest of the 536 other areas in the country. A micropolitan area is defined by the U.S. Census as "as one or more adjacent counties or county-equivalents that have at least one urban core area of at least 10,000 population but less than 50,000, plus adjacent territory that has a high degree of social and economic integration with the core, as measured by commuting ties," Cision reports.
Due to the increased cost of living in large metropolitan cities and population hikes, burgeoning businesses are heading to smaller, less-congested areas to open their doors. The Rocky Mountain region hosts the majority of these micropolitan areas.
ShivarWeb found that while there are 536 areas categorized as micropolitan, a large number of startups settle in 20 areas. These areas play host to 15 percent of new business startups while comprising only 3 percent of all 536 micropolitan areas. Among those areas are Breckenridge, Colorado, Jackson, Wyoming, Twin Falls, Idaho and Concord, New Hampshire.
