The third-quarter National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) pass rates for Montana State University-Northern have been reported at 90.91%, which is higher than the national average pass rate of 87.53%.
"Nursing programs in the United States are some of the most difficulty to get into and some of the most difficult to pass. Students who choose nursing as their area of study go through a rigorous state approved curriculum and spend hundreds of hours in clinicals observing and participating in nursing activities. Once they graduate from a registered nursing program, they must apply to their specific state’s Board of Nursing office for permission to take the NCLEX-RN test. Once the student is given permission to test by the Board of Nursing, they then schedule their test date and location. Once the NCLEX-RN test is passed, they are licensed as a registered nurse and can work as a nurse in the state they are licensed in," MSU-Northern said in a press release from its website.
Students can retake the test if they fail to pass it on their first time, but this doesn't affect the pass rates. Only first-time scores impact the school's pass rate.
"All nursing programs pass rates must fall within 10% of the average states’ pass rates. This is why state pass rates can vary from year to year. If a nursing program’s pass rate does not come within the current 10% range of the state pass rate, then they are responsible to the state board of nursing and other nursing accreditation to answer to why they did not meet pass rates and provide steps to improve upon these rates for next year," the school said in the press release.
