Every two hours, one mother and six newborns in Yemen reportedly die due to complications from pregnancy and causes that are typically preventable due to lack of access to healthcare.
Women and young girls with other conditions have also suffered due to years of conflict in the country. Nabiha Ahmad, a supervisor at a public dialysis center the International Committee of the Red Cross supports explains.
"Women who lost husbands became hesitant to travel to seek health support, especially if they live in rural areas, as they fear getting attacked or harassed on their way. Many of our female patients suffering from kidney failure died in their homes because they couldn’t reach the center in time for their life-saving periodic treatment."
